A few weeks ago, Elias and I were leaving work on a dark and rainy evening. I was carrying him across the street. When I gave him a little kiss on the cheek, I said, quoting a line from American Splendor, "Life is so sweet, and so sad."Elias asked, "Why did you say life is so sweet and so sad?"
I felt a little embarrassed. "Oh, I don't know."
