Lakeview Farms

I certainly didn't intend for four months to elapse since our last post, but life has been busy and I have a bad habit of letting projects like this slip into hibernation. The biggest change for Elias, of course, has been starting kindergarten here in our neighborhood, after accompanying me to work for many years and taking the summer off with his mom.

Anyway, my plan is to post with a little more frequency now that we've become a bit more accustomed to our new schedule. The photo posted here is from a trip we took to the pumpkin patch at Lakeview Farms a couple of weeks ago. It's a bit of a drive to get there, but it's much less crowded than the farms on Sauvie Island - and those pumpkin patches don't even have a sea monster!

A Little Story

A few weeks ago, Elias and I were leaving work on a dark and rainy evening. I was carrying him across the street. When I gave him a little kiss on the cheek, I said, quoting a line from American Splendor, "Life is so sweet, and so sad."

Elias asked, "Why did you say life is so sweet and so sad?"

I felt a little embarrassed. "Oh, I don't know."

He thought for a moment, and then said, "Sometimes you don't get what you want, right?"
