New Year's Day 2011

Elias was able to come to work with me for a few days this week while his kindergarten was on winter break. One afternoon, all of the children were telling a story together during circle time - we began with "Once upon a time..." and then asked each kid to add a little bit to the story in turn. By the time we came to Elias, who was ending the story, we'd seen a parade of superheroes, princesses, monsters, and robots, most of which had been murdered and eaten by the next character to appear, and then a flood, which killed off all of the survivors. Elias thought for a moment, and then said, "Everything came alive, and to this day, this tale was told for good times."

Lakeview Farms

I certainly didn't intend for four months to elapse since our last post, but life has been busy and I have a bad habit of letting projects like this slip into hibernation. The biggest change for Elias, of course, has been starting kindergarten here in our neighborhood, after accompanying me to work for many years and taking the summer off with his mom.

Anyway, my plan is to post with a little more frequency now that we've become a bit more accustomed to our new schedule. The photo posted here is from a trip we took to the pumpkin patch at Lakeview Farms a couple of weeks ago. It's a bit of a drive to get there, but it's much less crowded than the farms on Sauvie Island - and those pumpkin patches don't even have a sea monster!
